Drawing: pen&ink, scratch board, pastels, calligraphy
Deborah Liszt's wildlife art is created in the challenging and unique medium of scratchboard. The image is created by engraving on an art panel with a very sharp knife that has a thin layer of black ink on its surface with white china clay underneath. After the drawing is completed, coloring is achieved by using a paintbrush to apply special inks or watercolors. Due to the time-consuming process and accuracy involved in creating each piece, scratchboard has almost become a lost art!
